Workshop Series – Dynamic Shotgun Action Shooter

This course is a one and a half day course, broken down into 1/2 day virtual and 1 day on range.

Max of 12 students per course. Open to anyone who have successfully completed the Canadian Firearm Safety Course.

Student to trainer ratio not to surpass 5:1

The instructors are able to offer services in both official languages.

Required equipment: Shooter must bring the following items:

  • Hearing protection and eye protection;
  • centerfire shotgun with mounted and sighted (zeroed) sight (iron sight, optical or electronic accepted) (**rentals available**);
    • If bringing a restricted firearm – PAL (with restricted condition), firearm registration certificate and ATT;
  • minimum capacity of shotgun 2 rounds, recommended 4 round magazine on shotgun.
  • commercial shotgun ammunition (2 box birdshot, 1 box buckshot, 1 box slugs)
  • water and lunch;
  • clothes for inclement weather, closed toe footwear. Long sleeved shirt and long pants are highly recommended.

Disclaimer: Shotguns to be used on this course should be in their original unmodified form as supplied by the manufacturer. Modified shotguns to be accepted at the discretion of the training staff. Please contact us before attending course with a modified/upgraded shotgun. Grips and sights or mounted red dots notwithstanding.

AMMUNITION and GUN RENTALS

Ammunition can be provided at market value for the required caliber. For all other calibers please inquire. (A box of birdshot or buckshot contains 25 shells, a box of slugs contains 5 shells).

Shotgun rentals available during the course at a cost (available in 12GA only)* (i.e. Remington 870 or similar)

*Note: Only commercial ammunition is to be used in rented shotguns. You may bring your own commercial ammunition or it will be provided at the costs indicated above.

Topics covered during the course:

During the virtual class portion: ACTS/PROVE, Range procedures Marksmanship principles, Dominant eye, Shotgun safety, Shooting from various positions, Dry Fire exercises and how to deal with various malfunctions.

During the Live Fire exercises: Live fire training brief, including the assignment of a personalized instructor for the duration of the dry fire and live fire portion.

You will also be tested on the following: Shotgun Safety handling (virtually and on range) and Live Course of Fire (on range).

A certificate of completion is issued at the end of the course.

**Special Note: Any safety infractions during the session could result in the candidate being excused from continuing to participate in the session. Session are not weather dependent and will run rain or shine.

-Valid Government Issued ID

-Proof of Successful Completion of Canadian Firearm Safety Course

-Admin documents: Liability waiver and Course Policy Form (sent via email once registered for the course).

Course Hours:

Day 1: Virtual session will run from 7 pm to 9:30 pm online (link will be sent via email once registered for the course)

Day 2: On range session will run from 8am to 4pm.

 

Description

 

This is not an introductory level class. Students must have a good long gun safety skill set to attend as well as must have successfully passed the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.

Whilst not required, it is beneficial to have one of the following courses completed successfully prior to attending our workshop.

  • Successfully passed Canadian Shooting Sports Association Safety Class or Club level Safety Class/Orientation
  • Law 9 (Quebec)
  • Any of Arcane Defense Live Fire Courses/Workshops
  • IPSC Black badge; or
  • Have taken part in at least 2 IPSC/IDPA/Steel challenge practise matches; or
  • Having passed a law enforcement/military/security course of fire with a pistol.

This is the Sixth course in our workshop series.

This course will go over the basic theory of how to properly use a Shotgun to acquire and effectively engage a target. It will reinforce the Shooting Fundamentals and commit them to muscle memory through performance drills.

  • Shooting from Standing, kneeling, and ground positions
  • Loading and reloading effectively
  • Shooting with slugs out to distance
  • Shooting on the move
  • Identify and address multiple targets
  • Static position shooting drills
