Workshop Series – Introduction to Pistol Shooting

This course is a one and a half day course, broken down into 1/2 day virtual and 1 day on range.

Max of 12 students per course. Open to anyone 18 years of age and up who have successfully completed the Canadian Restricted Firearm Safety Course.

Student to trainer ratio not to surpass 3:1

The courses are offered in both official languages.

Required equipment: Shooter must bring the following items: Hearing protection, eye protection, centerfire semi-automatic pistol or double action revolver (otherwise pistol will be provided), commercial handgun ammunition (200 rounds), water, lunch, clothes for inclement weather, closed toe footwear. Long sleeved shirt and long pants are highly recommended.

Disclaimer: Pistols to be used on this course should be in their original unmodified form as supplied by the manufacturer. Modified pistols to be accepted at the discretion of the training staff. Please contact us before attending course with a modified/upgraded pistol. RMR/mounted red dots notwithstanding.

AMMUNITION and GUN RENTALS

200 rounds of ammunition can be provided at market value for the required caliber. Currently for 9mm Luger, r 40S&W, 45ACP or 38Spl. For all other calibers please inquire.

*Note: Only commercial ammunition is to be used in rented pistols. You may bring your own commercial ammunition or it will be provided at the costs indicated above.

Topics covered during the course:

During the virtual portion: ACTS/PROVE, Range procedures Marksmanship principles Dominant eye, Pistol safety, Shooting positions, Two and one handed shooting, Grip and stance.

During the Live Fire exercises: Dry Fire exercises and how to deal with various malfunctions. Live fire training brief, including the assignment of a personalized instructor for the duration of the dry fire and live fire portion.

You will also be tested on the following: Pistol Safety handling (virtual class) and Live Fire Safety (on range).

A certificate of completion is issued at the end of the course.

Description

This is a introductory level course. Students must have a good gun safety skill set to attend as well as must have successfully passed the Canadian RESTRICTED Firearms Safety Course.

Having one of the following courses completed successfully prior to attending our workshop is beneficial but not mandatory.

  • Successfully passed Canadian Shooting Sports Association Safety Class or Club level Safety Class/Orientation
  • Law 9 (Quebec)
  • Any of Arcane Defense Live Fire Courses/Workshops
  • IPSC Black badge; or
  • Have taken part in at least 2 IPSC/IDPA/Steel challenge practise matches; or
  • Having passed a law enforcement/military/security course of fire with a pistol.

This is the Fifth course in our workshop series.

This course will go over the basic theory of how to properly use a Handgun to acquire and effectively engage a target.

Some of the topics we will cover are the following: techniques for shot accuracy, marksmanship principles for shooting a various distances, methods for acquiring the sight and go over a few skill enhancement drills.

**Pistol are provided for this course, but participants can bring their own firearm.

**Participants must bring their commercially purchased ammunition (9mm Luger ammunition) or can purchase from us at the course.
