Workshop Series – Introduction to Positional Shooting with a Sport Utility Rifle

This course is a one and a half day course, broken down into 1/2 day virtual and 1 day on range.

Max of 12 students per course. Open to anyone 12 years of age and up who have successfully completed the Canadian Firearm Safety Course.

Student to trainer ratio not to surpass 4:1

The instructors are able to offer services in both official languages.

Required equipment: Shooter must bring the following items:

  • Hearing protection and eye protection;
  • centerfire rifle with mounted and sighted (zeroed) sight (iron sight, optical or electronic accepted) (**rentals available**);
    • If bringing a restricted firearm – PAL (with restricted condition), firearm registration certificate and ATT;
  • ideally 3 magazines for rifle;
  • commercial ammunition (200 rounds);
  • water and lunch;
  • clothes for inclement weather, closed toe footwear. Long sleeved shirt and long pants are highly recommended.
  • Rifle Sling

Disclaimer: Rifles to be used on this course should be in their original unmodified form as supplied by the manufacturer. Modified rifles to be accepted at the discretion of the training staff. Please contact us before attending course with a modified/upgraded rifle. Grips and sights or mounted red dots notwithstanding.

AMMUNITION and GUN RENTALS

200 rounds of ammunition can be provided at market value for the required caliber. Currently for 9mm Luger,  40S&W, 45ACP or 38Spl and 223rem. For all other calibers please inquire.

Rifle rentals with red dot available during the course at a cost (available in 223rem/556NATO, 9mm luger)* (i.e. WK-180C, IWI X95 or similar)

*Note: Only commercial ammunition is to be used in rented rifles. You may bring your own commercial ammunition or it will be provided at the costs indicated above.

Topics covered during the course:

During the in class portion: ACTS/PROVE, Range procedures Marksmanship principles, Dominant eye, Rifle safety, Shooting from various positions, Dry Fire exercises and how to deal with various malfunctions.

During the Live Fire exercises: Live fire training brief, shooting using different shooting aids, the full day includes the assignment of a personalized instructor for the duration of the dry fire and live fire portion.

You will also be monitored on the following: Rifle Safety handling (virtually and on range) and Live Fire (on range).

A certificate of completion is issued at the end of the course.

**Special Note: Any safety infractions during the session could result in the candidate being excused from continuing to participate in the session. Session are not weather dependent and will run rain or shine.

-Admin documents: Liability waiver and Course Policy Form (sent via email once registered for the course).

Course Hours:

Day 1: Virtual session will run from 7pm to 9pm online (link will be sent via email once registered for the course)

Day 2: On range session will run from 8am to 4pm.

This is a introductory level class. Students must have a good practical understanding of long gun safety to attend as well as must have successfully passed the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.

We recommend having at minimum a good understanding of how to use your personal rifle before coming to the course.

This is the Third course in our workshop series.

This course will go over the basic theory of how to properly use a Sport Utility Rifle while engaging targets from a variety of positions and how to use a variety of shooting aids.

Some of the topics we will cover are the following: zeroing your rifle, techniques for shot accuracy, marksmanship principles for shooting a various distances, methods for acquiring the sight and go over a few skill enhancement drills. We will also touch briefly on shooting on the move.

**Sport utility rifles are available for rental at $69.99/pers.

**Some ammo can be made available for sale, please contact ahead of time with caliber and quantity.
